Our Individual and Collective Liberation is Connected – so Let’s Connect! by Melissa Chapman Haynes

Greetings! This is Melissa Chapman Haynes, program chair for the Feminist Issues in Evaluation TIG. This week, we are elevating posts that center gender equity, aligned with the 2024 International Women’s Day. We are striving to build a TIG membership and feminist content that is inclusive of and elevates and intersects with race, gender, and sexuality.

During our 2023 TIG engagement at the AEA Annual Conference, and during the 2023 TIG Business Meeting, many people shared they were interested in engaging with the Feminist TIG to learn more about how to include or deepen feminist principles, theories, and approaches into their practice. Each of the AEA365 posts sponsored by our TIG will elevate such resources.

In 2024, the Feminist Issues in Evaluation TIG is working to revise our online presence and communications, and we plan to engage in a discussion about Data Feminism in late April. This content was selected because it is open access and informed by intersectional feminism. We’ll use a Zoom platform for the discussion, along with ways to engage that are synchronous as well as asynchronous, keeping in mind that our members are located around the globe. If you are not part of the Feminist TIG communications and would like to receive more details about this opportunity, reach out at any time!

Finally, we want to invite collaboration with other AEA TIGs. We are early in exploring how we might partner with the LGBTQ+ TIG moving forward and will continue those discussions. This is an open invitation to other TIG leaders to reach out to partner on sponsoring sessions at AEA, hosting a virtual discussion or sharing session, or some other creative ideas.

Feminist issues and principles are for all people. For inspiration, see Tony Porter’s TED Talk on how the liberation of men is directly tied to the liberation of women.
