Benefits of Becoming an AEA Member by Mike Zapata

This week is Individuals Week, which means we take a break from our themed weeks and spotlight the Hot Tips, Cool Tricks, Rad Resources and Lessons Learned from any evaluator interested in sharing. My name is Mike Zapata, and I am the Membership Coordinator at the American Evaluation Association (AEA). I will have been serving AEA for four years this coming April. In my role, I focus on membership engagement, acting as the main point of contact for membership-related questions and leading monthly strategy meetings where my colleagues and I brainstorm ideas to offer greater value to our members.

Rad Resources

With members not only from around the country but also from across the world, AEA membership will give you access to a wide spectrum of perspectives, insights, and resources. You will never run out of networking opportunities! For example, AEA boasts 50+ Topical Interest Groups (TIGS),  volunteer communities that focus on specific methodology, work context, or relevant concerns through the lens of evaluation. Members also have exclusive access to AEA Connect and EvalTalk, discussion boards and communities where you can collectively deliberate on issues and share resources.

As a member, you may also take full advantage of our Career Center. Here, you can post a resume, search job and RFP listings, and subscribe to job and RFP alerts as a job seeker, with an assortment of professional development resources available. AEA members can post RFPs for free. AEA additionally offers its own search tool, Find an Evaluator, which can be used to locate AEA members who can provide evaluation consulting or lend their expertise on evaluation projects.

AEA proudly stands as a global center for advancement in evaluation.  Members enjoy exclusive discounts on registration and access to a number of AEA’s signature offerings like our in-person annual Evaluation Conference and Summer Institute. Can’t join us in-person? Our ever-expanding archive of self-paced and live courses offered in our Digital Knowledge Hub are another way for members to save on expanding their evaluation knowledge virtually. AEA members also enjoys free access to the quarterly scholastic journals, the American Journal of Evaluation (AJE) and New Directions for Evaluation (NDE). Hardcopy versions of these journals are shipped to our Regular Standard Members upon release. Becoming a member opens a window of opportunity for professional and educational development to all who join, and as a part of AEA’s staff, I am energized by the plethora of features that place AEA at the forefront of educational resources available in the steadily evolving field of evaluation.
