My name is Melanie Ann Delano and I am a graduate student, a professional mom, and a part-time consultant. Here is a favorite resource that I wanted to share.
Rad Resource – KDMC Tutorials: I recently discovered the Knight Digital Media Center’s (KDMC) Tutorials. KDMC is housed at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. It focuses on providing support and resources for journalists as they learn to navigate and leverage digital media. KDMC has developed online, free, step-by-step tutorials in a range of areas that are of interest to evaluators and other data divas like me! They add to the list regularly. Here are just a few of the available tutorials:
- Making an informed decision when buying an audio recorder: Great for when I needed to buy a recorder for taping interviews.
- Data Visualization for Non-programmers: That’s me! I found the introduction easy to understand and it helped me to get up and running with Google spreadsheets to the point of making charts with them.
- Using Spreadsheet Data in Google Maps and Google Earth: I was amazed at what I could do here with more free tools from Google. I need to practice further, but the tutorial gave me the basics and I can take it from here.
- Podcasting: OK, I included this one because it is just a skill I wanted to learn – and KDMC’s tutorial gave me the tools to try it out.
