Quantitative Methods: Theory and Design TIG Week: Get Free Quantitative and Qualitative Advice at the Quant/Qual Café! by Haiyan Bai, Mende Davis, Vajeera Dorabawila, Karen Larwin, Antonio Olmos and Lana Yampolskaya

Hi! Our names are (in alphabetical order) Haiyan Bai, Mende Davis, Vajeera Dorabawila, Karen Larwin, Antonio Olmos and Lana Yampolskaya, leadership of the Quantitative Methods: Theory and Design Topical Interest Group (Quant TIG). Our goal is to promote the effective use of quantitative methods in evaluation by helping members understand advanced techniques, providing training in core methods, and fostering best practices for specific evaluation contexts. This support extends to members of our TIG, the broader AEA community, and the evaluation field at large.

Since 2019, we’ve partnered with the Qualitative Methods TIG to co-sponsor the Quant/Qual Café, a unique opportunity to get free advice on quantitative or qualitative methods and research design. We’re excited to continue offering this service at the upcoming conference!

Hot Tips

1. Check the Program: Make sure to check the day, time, and location for the Café in the conference program. We’re already listed, so plan ahead!

2. Bring Your Questions: Whether you’re working through a complex quantitative analysis or grappling with a qualitative research design issue, this is the perfect chance to get expert advice. You can sign up for either a quantitative or qualitative session, or both, depending on your needs.

3. Prepare to Engage: To make the most of your session, come prepared with clear, concise questions. Think about the specific issues you’re facing so that the experts can provide the most focused, helpful guidance.

Cool Tricks

If you’re juggling both quantitative and qualitative challenges, sign up for advice in both areas. We’ll have lists available at the event for those interested in receiving advice from both methodological perspectives. This can help ensure that all aspects of your research design are considered.

Get Involved

Whether you’re a seasoned evaluator or just starting, the Quant/Qual Café is a welcoming space for anyone looking to deepen their methodological skills. We encourage you to drop by and take advantage of this free resource. It’s a great opportunity to learn, connect, and enhance your evaluation work with the support of experts from both Quant and Qual TIGs.

We look forward to seeing you there!
