I Had a Meeting on Zoom Today by Kylie Hutchinson

Hi, I’m Kylie Hutchinson. I’m an independent evaluator with Community Solutions Planning & Evaluation and author of three books about evaluation and program planning: A Short Primer on Innovative Evaluation Reporting, Evaluation Failures: 22 Tales of Mistakes Made and Lessons Learned, and Survive and Thrive: Three Steps to Securing Your Program’s Sustainability.

Every year I adapt a holiday song to share with my colleagues and clients.  Season’s greetings, and enjoy!

I Had a Meeting on Zoom Today
(sung to the tune of “I Saw Three Ships”)

I spent 5 hours on Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
I really wish it would go away
Five hours since this morning.

I didn’t unmute on Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
No one could hear what I had to say,
On Zoom today this morning.

I dropped a call on Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
Something happened, I went away,
Completely without warning.

I forgot to mute on Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
Although I had nothing to say,
And everyone heard me snoring.

I had a meeting on Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
ANOTHER meeting on Zoom today,
And was it ever boring.

I wore my PJs on Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
On Zoom today,
My unwashed hair on full display,
My colleagues I’m ignoring.

Instead, I used the phone today,
No Zoom today,
No Zoom today,
Just like they did in the olden days,
It’s better and restoring.

There’ll come a day when it goes away,
No Zoom today,
No Zoom today,
I’ll see my colleagues in-person and say,
“Thank god no Zoom this morning.”

And all employees on earth shall sing,
No Zoom today,
No Zoom today,
Let’s book a room for our meeting
It’s Zoom we’re now ignoring.

Hot Tip: Use the phone! Yes, many of us may still be working from home, but that doesn’t mean we have to use Zoom for every meeting (or email for every conversation for that matter). Zoom fatigue is real, so try reaching out by phone instead. In these weird and wacky times, real connection is oh so important, and only a phone call away.
