Blue Evaluation by Kylie Hutchinson

Hello! I’m Kylie Hutchinson (also known as @EvaluationMaven), an independent evaluation consultant with Community Solutions Planning & Evaluation and author of three evaluation and program planning books: A Short Primer on Innovative Evaluation Reporting, Evaluation Failures: 22 Tales of Mistakes Made and Lessons Learned, and Survive and Thrive: Three Steps to Securing Your Program’s Sustainability.

Every year I adapt a holiday song to share with my colleagues and clients. Season’s greetings, and enjoy!

Blue Evaluation

(Sung to the tune of Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas”)

I’ll have a blue, evaluation, without you,

Won’t know how to do, evaluation, without you,

If you can’t, plan with me, then there’s no diversity,

It won’t be the same, without some C-R-E*

How do we know, what is “valid”, without you?

How do we know, what is “worthy”, without you?

If you’re not here with me, then there’s no equity,

It won’t be the same, I think you will agree.

But when those forms of exclusion, start falling,

That’s when a new, new inclusion, starts calling,

We’ll be doin’ all right, and get better insights,

When I do a new, new eval with you.

*Culturally-responsive evaluation
